PARALLEL: Solo: Laura Limbourg

Semmelweisklinik, Vienna, 6 - 11 Sep 2022
Laura Limbourg’s deals with the issues of gender equality, sexual discrimination and women’s rights, highlighting the prevalence of prostitution, sex tourism and sexual abuse in Asia. The compositions mostly include female figures placed within an exotic jungle environment along with symbolic animals, such as dolphins, tigers, snakes or dragons. They sometimes communicate mythologically with the human figure as surrogate attributes of internal and external weaknesses, forces or deities. Her distinctive naive painting style is characterized by the use of diluted acrylic paints, oil pastels and watercolors having the effect of blurred contours and dustiness to ensure a censorship of the protagonists.
