SUPPAN presents a selection of three emerging artists, exploring the possibilities of painting in different ways. Julia Brennacher, whose central element is the thematization of painterly space limits herself to a reductive formal vocabulary. Curves, flat and linear set pieces appear and experience a spatialization in the superimposition of color layers and forms. On the contrary, Kuchar and Limbourg use representational painting to emphasize on the female body. Karo Kuchar’conceptual work is based on the idea of a symbiosis between body and space, and focuses on the various concepts of the skin as a shell or cover, as well as the body as an architectural structure. She critically examines society, legal aspects of art and the economic market, as well as feminism. Her so-called skins made of fabric capture the imprint of walls in old buildings and the appearance of female garment, erecting a structure with an ambivalent form. Laura Limbourg explores social conduct, interpersonal relationships, as well as individual and collective value systems across cultures. Her work reflects upon and draw inspiration from often-contrasting impressions she encounters and absorbs throughout her extensive travels and day-to-day life as an artist. Most recently Limbourg takes on an introspective approach by adopting an autobiographical thematic direction. Scenes from pursuing her passions and interests become intermingled with childhood memories as well as encounters with friends and fellow artists. The independent yet intricately intertwined storylines unfurl across her canvases as pages of a visual diary.
