Hermann Nitsch Austrian, b. 1938
Hermann Nitsch (* 1938) is one of the most important representatives of Viennese actionism. His abstract "splatter" paintings are related to his orgies of the mysteries theater performances. "The shedding of surfaces (especially of vertical surfaces) became a basic ritual of my actions. It was once again possible for me to show the basic elements of my theater concept on a surface. I wanted to show how the spilling, splashing, smearing and plotting of red color fluid can cause sensual-intensive excitation in the spectator. " (Hermann Nitsch)
